history

Thank you for taking the time to explore my services—I truly appreciate your interest. My name is Joshua Feness, and my journey into gunsmithing began in 2018, after my time in the Army as an ammunition specialist. I had the privilege of apprenticing under my great uncle, Raymond Caton, a Marine Corps veteran and Master Gunsmith with over 60 years of experience at AmChar Wholesale and ATI. To formalize my expertise, I earned my certification in gunsmithing in 2023 from Yavapai College in Prescott, Arizona, where I received hands-on training in manual machining and an extensive education on rifles, shotguns, and pistols. My skill set includes safety inspections, proper cleaning, basic and advanced repairs, wood and fiberglass stock repair and finishing, hand stippling polymer plastics, metal finishing, phosphate finishing (Parkerizing), Cerakote application, slow and fast rust bluing, barrel chambering, contouring, threading, and bedding. While I am proficient across a range of firearm platforms, my passion lies in working with bolt-action rifles and 1911 pistols. After completing my two years of formal training, I relocated to Colorado Springs, where I revitalized a young gunsmithing department, transforming it into a highly successful division of one of Southern Colorado’s top firearms retailers. Whether you’re looking for expert repair, custom work, or meticulous firearm care, I look forward to putting my skills and experience to work for you.
